The Division of Student Affairs is collecting photos from student organizations, events, activities and other UNO related happenings for use in publications such as the Student Handbook, Student Affairs brochure and more.

The process is simple and easy. Fill out the form online and then attach your photo and submit.

We want to get as many photos as we can and you can upload them anytime - day or night.

We have even provided some simple guidelines below to assist you in your photo taking and uploading process:

Taking Great Photos

1. Set your camera resolution to the highest resolution possible to capture all of the details of the photo and to ensure that it transfers well to print.

2. Send photos that are at least 1MB in size. This is also a measure of how much detail is in the photo.

3. Try to take photos with a digital camera that has at least 4 megapixels in size.

4. DON'T take photos from a cell phone camera. Most do not provide high enough resolution to be used for printing.

5. Turn off the camera date stamp. These are usually in the way of the photo and sometimes cannot be cropped out of the picture.

6. Take candid, action shots that show something going on. Don't just get people lined up in a row.

7. If you do take a group picture, avoid the "Adam and Eve" pose where your group has their hands folded in front of their...well...private parts. The best group photos like that are either hands at the side or behind their backs.

8. Make sure the sun is not in your subjects faces if you are taking an outdoor photo.

9. Turn on your "red-eye reduction" setting if your camera has it available. Obviously, this helps reduce red-eye so you don't look like a zombie or vampire.

10. Try to take horizontal and vertical shots. All you have to do is rotate your shooting hand with the camera in it. It's easy and gives us and you some shots with variety.

11. Don't take photos of students with alcoholic beverages in hand, performing a lewd or obscene act or gesture, and especially not doing anything too stupid that will make you cringe 20 years from now when your kids see the photo. The Division of Student Affairs has the right to reject or not reproduce any photo that is not in the best interest of the University of New Orleans.

Submitting Great Photos

1. Don't submit FaceBook, MySpace or other website type photos. The resolution has been shrunk for faster loading and the unshrinking makes it grainy or jaggy when expanded.

2. Submit names of subjects when you can for the caption. Use a standard, reading style to identify people in the photo - Left to Right, top row to bottom row. That is how you read a magazine or newspaper.

3. Always include the important crucial information relative to the event - name of event, date of event, location, brief description, etc.

4. Only submit JPG or TIF photos directly from the camera. So if you save a photo from your camera to a hard drive, send the original, unedited photo.

The Division of Student Affairs assumes that you are submitting the photo as a representation of your group or organization with the best interest of the organization in mind. Photos will be used to promote and document the events and activities of the University of New Orleans and its students. Photos become the property of the Division of Student Affairs to be used to that end for future publications and promotion.

Please contact the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership to submit your photos.
