The University Of New Orleans Children’s Center, located on the UNO Lakefront Campus, is dedicated to providing the finest child care and early childhood education environment to the children of the UNO community. Our goal is simple: we are intensely committed to the well-being of each child.
The Children’s Center curriculum provides an educational and developmental sequence of activities directing the child’s experiences and enhancing his or her own self-esteem through exploration, elaboration, and information. As children grow in self-esteem, their lifelong love for learning develops. Our staff strives to provide a safe, caring environment within which each child can master the developmental tasks of early childhood at his/her own pace and in his/her own unique way. The UNO Children’s Center holds a Class A license issued by the state of Louisiana.
The Center serves children from twelve months to five years of age. Children twelve months through two years may enroll in the toddler programs; children 3 to 5 years may attend the preschool programs. The preschool program is not designed to substitute for kindergarten, and children of kindergarten age are not accepted (unless they miss the deadline for kindergarten in public schools).
Daily life at the Children’s Center is educational, stimulating and fun! Meals are provided to all children who are registered for the breakfast and lunch periods, and nutritional snacks are served at scheduled intervals throughout the afternoon. The children have supervised time outdoors in the playground areas daily, weather permitting.
The Center observes holidays as part of the planned curriculum. Holiday observances are not religious in nature but focus on seasonal symbols and activities oriented toward children. Birthdays and other special days can be celebrated, too.
For detailed information about our programs and policies, or for a tour of our facility, please contact the UNO Children’s Center at 280-3131.
